Summary:
To manage and supervise the District Transportation Department, including all district school bus and van drivers, and the District Mechanic.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities outlined below are representative and do not encompass or define all tasks that may be required by this position.
Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations.
Recruits and supervises all transportation personnel and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer or release.
Collaborates with the Superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
Cooperates with school personnel and others responsible for planning special trips.
Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
Supervises and coordinates the routing, scheduling and management of the student transportation system.
Oversees the work of mechanics in overhauling and repairing buses.
Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
Supervises drug and alcohol testing of bus drivers and other employees who drive school system vehicles.
Administers on-going safety programs for drivers and pupils and participates in local, state and national agencies to ensure maximum safety standards are maintained.
Prepares and administers the transportation budget.
Completes and dispatches accident reports.
Submits all reports required by state authorities.
Takes an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.
Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
Develops recommendations for future transportation needs.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Directors policies.
Annually performs performance reviews on drivers to provide feedback, listen to and address concerns, and maintain positive culture.
Provide opportunities for staff to participate in culture building activities to support physical and mental health.
Collaborates with the District Mechanic on replacement of District vehicles to maintain a well-maintained fleet.
Fills-in as replacement driver on an as-needed basis to cover when suitable replacements cannot be found.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
